One Piece: Blackbeard’s Most Evil Crime May Be Worse Than Killing Whitebeard

According to a One Piece theory, Blackbeard most likely killed his mother in order to achieve his father’s goal of becoming the king of the world.

One Piece

Since his introduction in One Piece, Blackbeard has been portrayed as one of the main villains of the story, but recent developments have changed his image a little bit. The story has revealed that he was a victim of the tyranny and terror of Imu and the World Government, and that these developments indirectly led to him becoming an antagonistic character in the series.

However, his antagonistic actions may have started at a young age, as he sought to accomplish his father’s goals. According to a theory by u/Ive-Got-No-Idea on Reddit, Blackbeard figured out that Xebec couldn’t achieve his goal because of his family, and thus, Blackbeard decided to cut off his loved ones. This means that he most likely had to kill his mother and then follow his father’s footsteps.

The Terrifying One Piece Parallel Between Blackbeard and Doflamingo

Killing a parent is nothing new in One Piece. Fans have already seen Doflamingo killing his father out of revenge because he blamed him for the suffering and humiliation his family endured after they voluntarily gave up their status as World Nobles. Just like Doflamingo realized that in order to become a Celestial Dragon once again, he would have to kill his father, it is a possibility that Blackbeard also followed the same route.

The theory suggests that when Eris told Blackbeard how Xebec came close to achieving his dream but ultimately lost everything because he chose to save his loved ones, Blackbeard realized that he needed to cut all loved ones out of his life to avoid ‘failing’ like his father and to ensure he reaches his own dream. Thus, he decided to kill his mother and focus entirely on achieving his father’s dream, no matter what.

This is why Blackbeard doesn’t have a single personality trait of his mother or father, as he lost or killed them at a young age. He then shaped himself into a monster who is powerful enough to not only become the strongest pirate in the world, but also face the World Government in One Piece. This might also be the reason why he didn’t hesitate to kill Whitebeard, who was a father figure for him for such a long time.

Why Blackbeard’s Ambition May Make Him a More Sinister Villain Than Imu

If the above-mentioned theory turned out to be true and Blackbeard indeed killed his mother, it would make him the most menacing villain of One Piece. In fact, he might become a more sinister villain than Imu, the speculated final boss of the series. Killing a parent is definitely one of the worst crimes, and it is one of the main reasons why Doflamingo is regarded as one of the most irredeemable villains in the entire story.

Blackbeard’s actions already make him a terrifying villain, and if Eiichiro Oda were to add the murder of a parent to his portfolio as an antagonist, he would become even more chilling and threatening. Blackbeard’s goal certainly requires immense effort and focus, but going to such extremes might reveal just how far he’s willing to abandon his humanity to achieve it.

He fits the role of a One Piece villain, and this development might elevate his status even more. His pursuit of power has been one of the most thrilling aspects of the story, and the final saga is only going to hype it even more.
